The Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN) could not hold its regular congress this year due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Instead, FUEN held its Assembly of Delegates online on 24 October 2020.
The members of the Working Group of Turkic Minorities/Communities (TAG) which are the Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF), the Western Thrace Minority University Graduates Association (WTMUGA) and the Friendship, Equality and Peace (FEP) Party representing Western Thrace Turks; International Society of Meskhetian Turks “VATAN” and “Vatan” Public Union of Meskhetian Turks living in Azerbaijan representing Meskhetian Turks; Bars El Social Organisation for Fostering and Development of the Karachay-Balkar Traditions representing Karachay-Balkars; the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People representing Crimean Tatars and the Kosovo Youth Union Organization representing the Turks living in Kosovo attended the FUEN Assembly of Delegates.
At the FUEN Assembly of Delegates which started with a welcome speech by FUEN President Loránt Vincze, the activities of FUEN and the working groups under the umbrella of FUEN were explained, and FUEN’s 2020- 2021 programme was presented.
FUEN Vice President Halit Habip Oğlu delivered information with respect to the activities of FUEN TAG and indicated the Covid-19 pandemic had negative effects on TAG’s activities.
The FUEN Assembly of Delegates adopted a resolution with respect to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the national minorities and linguistic communities in Europe. The resolution also states that there was insufficient information given in mother tongue to the Turkish community in Western Thrace in Greece which also participated in FUEN’s survey on the Covid-19 pandemic.
At the FUEN Assembly of Delegates, the organization “Qumuqlar” representing the Kumyk community in Russia which participated as a guest in the FUEN TAG meetings was accepted by the votes of the delegates as new member of FUEN. We welcome Qumuqlar into the FUEN family!
